All carvings are made from natural materials. Here are some tips on how to help them live for decades to come. . .

Bone and Antler

Bone and antler were once living and growing things. Much like leather and unsealed wood, they can dry out and start to degrade over time. If worn against the skin, they will pick up natural oils and moisture, which keep them strong and healthy. If stored or put away for longer periods of time, simply revive them with a little bit of oil, or start wearing them again to give them a bit of love. Thinner oils like avocado and almond oils are best, just rub gently with a cloth and let the pieces soak up as much as they can, then wipe the excess away.

Wood Pieces

I use primarily hardwood for my carvings. Not only are harwoods beautiful, with a lovely handfeel, they are also very strong and durable. These carvings can be worn as everyday pieces, though it is recommended to take them off for showering and swimming. My wooden pieces are finished with different varieties of oils and beeswax mixtures. To help the carvings stay shiny and vibrant, I recommend rubbing a little bit of cutting board oil, beeswax mixed oils, or almond oil into the piece using a bit of cloth or paper towel. Allow the wood to drink up the oils then wipe off the excess. This will keep them looking luscious and happy for many years to come.
